D'Scales App Reviews

Lazy developers

The people that develop thus app are ridiculously lazy. They JUST updated after almost 6 months and still the app is incomplete. They need to fill in the rest of the Blues Scale since they only have the first position. Ive emailed them three times telling the to finish the blues scale and add Dropped D tuning and three times they have replied saying thank you and STILL havent done it. Dont give these lazy mofos your money.

Great app, is complete"

You advance positions by using the arrow at the bottom. The blues scale is based on the minor pentatonic all the positions are there. There are also a lots of other useful scales, modes and arpeggios. Awesome, useful for any serious guitar player. If you want to get good or you just want to add a wider vocabulary to your playing for .99 cents this is a must have. I will be checking out the cord master next!

Play all notes needs a fix

Good app but the play all notes option does not turn off on the paid version. It works on the free version. Needs to fixed. Will b a five star after fix.

This app only supports a few preset tunings

Avoid if you are using a non- standard tuning like open C

Scale Wizard

Good little app. Thought it broke but when I reset my phone its been great.

Awesome

I have really been wanting to learn scales and this little app has helped a lot. Was worth it for me :D

Doesnt work like it should

If you stay in standard its great. If you want to try a different tuning it wont show the fretboard, and even if it did it only does dropped D. Never mind if you play in Dropped C or B. Since it only works in Standard you have to transpose everything to whatever tuning your in which defeats a big purpose of this app. They need allow custom tunings, and fix the numerous bugs. Then this will get 5 stars.

Good app

One of the better scale apps, its not overly complicated and has good sound. Hope they include more for alternate tunings. But for basic tuning scale learning it does a very good job. Add those alternate tunings and its definitely 5 star.

Some bad programming

In some instances it calls a C note b#, and an F note e#. Obviously this is incorrect.

Great and useful for all levels

I was hoping to be skeptical, but I was amazed at this apps completeness. And as much as I like to figure fingerings out myself, I really enjoy being able to check out the advanced scales. There is only one bug—the half whole diminished scale is missing a note. They do need to correct this, but I got to hear the scale without the note and I thought it sounded cool. Mistakes can be happy accidents sometimes.

Not optimized for ipad

The fact that this product has been out for so long and not optimized for the ipads larger screen is beyond shameful.

Music teacher

In response to the person who said it had bad programming due to Cs being called B#... That is the way its supposed to be for the scale or chord to be spelled correctly. This app does what it says. Buy it!!

Incomplete

I bought this app to help me learn open tunings (as was advertised). I selected Open D, one of the most common tunings. All scales I select (blues, major, pentatonic) say "no available scales". It was just $1 but it isnt what I wanted or what was advertised.

Best choice for scales and modes

This by far the easiest, clearest app for guitar scales. I like Guitar Toolkit for chords but for scales this blows it away. Mainly because of the contrast of the notes overlaid on the fretboard. GTK has dark dots on a rosewood fretboard and Scale Wizard has nice yellow dots on maple making it much easier to see. The way they have the scales grouped is great too. Another plus is the landscape view which GTK doesnt have... Dont get me wrong, GTK is fantastic for tuning and chords but for scales, Scale Wizard is the way to go!

Only works with standard tunning

Occasionally it will show the desired scale in an open tuning but for one who mainly plays in drop b, waste I money.

Hate the new look

The simple design looks cheap and uninspired. The previous version looked so much better.

Ugly - Would not Buy This Now

Ugly! Ugly! Ugly! Too much white! Makes it tough to look at for very long. No contrast. You successful leaped 20 years into the past!

Beautiful Redesign... Finally!

Finally someone redesigns some music apps for iOS 8. Its beautiful and has finally been updated to support larger iPhones. I love that there is a choose button and that the up and down arrows have been moved to bottom making it easier for one-handed use. I also love having a play button.

Great but....

Great application, but its annoying how the application will close after a small amount of time. I find that when Im studying my scales the app closes on me. Its me its quite frustrating. Other than that the application is great and very useful.

Great app, but problems

I used to use this app all the time, starting going back to it and discovered that the alternate tuning dont work. For instance I want to be in drop c tuning and use C minor scale, the fretboard will be blank.
